Extend the reach of your Lead Generation Referral Program with 1-click

Extend the reach of your Lead Gen Referral Program by turning friends into advocates with 1 click! Gather now enables you to convert newly subscribed friends into advocates by including a 1-click button on the opt-in success form.

The use of a 1 click button can be a great way to extend the reach of your lead gen referral program and maintain referral momentum in the following situations:

  • A launch referral program. When you are launching a new product or brand and are building a launch list (or a waitlist).

  • A competition or a giveaway where the friends and entrants refers, the more entries they get.

  • A simple newsletter referral program. As an example, when a friend is invited to subscribe, they may land on a page that features the latest issue of a newsletter (so they get a feel for the newsletter content). This is where they can be served a form to opt-in. When they confirm their opt-on they can be presented with a button to invite subscribers.

Gather allows you to add a button to the successful referral opt-in screen, that is used to thank the friend when they opt-in, which will turn the friend into an advocate. By clicking on the button, they will be added to your campaign as an advocate and re-directed to the advocate dashboard to start making referrals of their own.

Set Up your 1 Click button

So let’s go through how to implement this campaign boosting feature of a Lead-generation referral program.

Start in the Editor section of your campaign, under the design select the ‘friend Opt-in Confirmation’ menu.

Rewards

Depending on the type of Lead gen referral program you are implementing, you may or may not be providing the friends with a discount code when they opt-in. If you are not offering a reward as part of your campaign, you can hide the reward section of the screen by checking the box, as shown below.

You can toggle the reward box off and on by checking the ‘disable code or link redemption’ check box.

Call to Action

Gather enables you to add in a URL, or a button, as a ‘call to action’ in the opt-in success confirmation screen.

To include the call to action button that will enable you to enrol friends (as advocates) into your lead-gen referral program, select ‘button’ from the ‘Call to Action’ drop down menu.

Liquid Variables

Now here comes the science bit. To redirect the newly opted-in friend, to the advocate dashboard of your campaign, without asking them to sign up as an advocate, you will need to include liquid variables in the URL.

https://futurefarm.myshopify.com/?gc_login_hash={{login_hash}}

  1. Webpage URL

Insert the URL of the webpage in which your referral page is displayed. This might be a dedicated landing page on your site.

  2. ?gc_login_hash

To launch the referral sidebar on the page at step 1, append: ?gc_login_hash= to the URL. This will query Gather for the friends profile based on a unique string so that Gather can identify the friend’s profile.

  3. Liquid variables

So that the friend can be identified by Gather and added as a new advocate without them having to sign up again, include the following liquid variables at the end of the URL: {{login_hash}}.

Once you are set up, run an end to end test of your referral process to ensure that the correct name and/email of the friend is captured as an advocate and the URL is working correctly. *Note that if the friend opted-in originally using an email invitation, only their email address will be captured, as they did not input their name on sign up.

You are now set up to extend your lead generation referral program and increase subscribers. If you have any questions, reach out at hello@gathercustomers.com.

Note that this is applicable to lead generation campaigns. For conversion referral campaigns, where the friend is required to make a purchase for a successful referral to occur, use a post purchase pop-up to convert new customers into advocates and refer to the following article: Maximise Successful Conversions with a 1-Click Call to Action Button
