How to send your referral campaign emails with Gather’s integration with Klaviyo - Friend Reward Email

 Gather’s integration with Klaviyo enables you to send certain campaign emails using your Klaviyo account.

In order to use Klaviyo, you need to integrate your Gather account with Klaviyo. To do this input your private Klaviyo API key in the ‘integrations’ section of your Gather account and fetch your lists from Klaviyo.

In this article we show you how to use Klaviyo to send out a Friends Reward Email. This is an email sent to friends who have just accepted an invitation to join your campaign.

This email is intended as a reminder to the friend that they have joined your campaign and, where applicable, it should include details of the reward they have received for joining. e.g. discount code.

If you want to send out the friend reward email using Klaviyo you should consider the friend optin consent settings in your campaign design.

In order for you to send friends emails from Klaviyo they must provide email marketing consent (marked as ‘email subscribed’ in Klaviyo.)

You can choose how consent is obtained from friends when they join in the design section of your campaign.

Consent that is obtained with checkbox consent means that when not checked you will not be able to use Klaviyo to send out the friend reward email.

Where consent is obtained via form submit all friends will be marked as email subscribed in Klaviyo.

When considering your how consent is obtained, please refer to your applicable privacy laws and regulations.

Friend Reward Email Klaviyo Email Flow

For the purposes of setting up emails for your campaign, it can be beneficial to set up a Klaviyo list specifically for your referral campaign. In the following example, we have set up a list called Gather RAF.

  • Create segment for friends, see the following image for an example of the segment settings:

Friends has the property ‘Referred?’ = True.

  • Create an email flow in Klaviyo where the trigger is set to a person joining the friend segment.

  • Edit the email with your branding and copy. Use the Gather email template as a guide (under Rewards).

  • Insert the custom property {{GC_REFERRED_REWARD_CODES}} in the email, this is the friend’s discount code. This can also be applied to your URL in order to apply the code directly to their cart.

Remember to test your flow and emails to ensure that your liquid variables are returning the correct data points.

Remember to de-activate the ‘friend reward emails’ in your campaign reward settings, so that the email is not sent by Gather.

Gather is set up to send these emails as part of your referral campaign. Gather’s email editor enables you to send branded emails, with personalisation as part of your campaign. Email templates for these emails exist in your campaign by default.
